On your marks … get set … GO! Relay for Life kicks off to help cure cancer
Cancer impacts many people’s lives, and has had a sad and profound impact on the Roth Family. As some readers may know, lung cancer claimed the life of Terry, Bob Roth’s wife, nearly 8 years ago. And while much progress has been made over the past few years, there is still so much more that can be done.
Fortunately, the youngest generation of Roths is doing something about it. All of us here at New River are very proud of Bob’s eldest granddaughter Sarah Roth, who for the second year in a row is active in our local Relay for Life event in Davie and Cooper City, Florida.
Consider this: In 2008 alone, more than 1.4 million new cancer cases were diagnosed. Sadly, the nation’s second leading cause of death (heart disease is first) still claims a half million lives each year. And the average person has about a 1 in 5 chance of contracting the deadly disease.
Now that’s powerful incentive to support ongoing research to try and halt this menace that threatens so many lives. If that’s not enough, consider the plight of our own employee Barbara, one of New River Grove’s longest tenured employees and a favorite friend to many of our customers. Barbara faces her own fight with cancer right now, and we wish her all the love and support we can.
Please consider supporting Sarah’s Relay for Life fundraising efforts by making your donation before March 20, 2010. Even a small gift can make a huge difference. You can contribute directly online using a special secure portal set up by the American Caner Society:
